Reagan High School Course Drop/Add Procedures

The decision to take a course is an important one. Students should seriously consider their educational and career plan and develop a program of study to work toward those plans. Parent involvement in student course selection is highly encouraged. It is imperative that all students and parents give careful consideration to course requests. Student course requests determine what courses and how many sections of each will be offered the following year. The high school add/drop procedure is listed below:

Students will receive their schedule on June 1st for the following school year. Student and/or parent-initiated schedule changes are permitted only before June 10 for the next school year. Any schedule changes for Semester 2 must be made during the first full week of January prior to the start of Semester 2.

Only requests that reflect the following circumstances will be processed at the start of the new semester.

During the first week of the new semester, the Counseling Department will attempt to quickly resolve student requests that reflect the following:

  • A scheduling error resulting in an incomplete or inaccurate program (example: no lunch, etc.).
  • Changes warranted by summer school makeup or Credit Recovery completion
  • Out-of-district transcript and Transfer Students
  • Changes in a student’s placement based on recommendation by course teacher (example: Non-Heritage Spanish to Heritage Spanish)

In order to process a change during add/drop window, students must:

  • Pick up a Course Add/Drop form from their School Counselor.
    • All CP and Full DP students must request this form from the IB Coordinator.
    • Course students pick up a request form from the School Counselor.
  • Obtain all required signatures, including teacher and parent/guardian signatures.
  • Return signed form to School Counselor for schedule change.

Final approval of changes is contingent upon the following:

  • The proposed change does not jeopardize graduation.
  • The proposed change does not negatively affect prospects of college admission.
  • The change requested is logistically possible.
  • The change does not prevent students from obtaining final grade/credit.

At any time, changes will not be permitted to:

  • Change teachers.
  • Change lunch periods (unless supported by medical documentation).
  • Change to more convenient and/or desirable periods, including accommodating Good Standing Release.
  • Group friends together in the same class.

Changes in a student’s placement based on academic concerns that are recommended by administrators, teachers, School Counselors, and/or IB Coordinators may occur throughout the school year pending administrative and department approval.

No student should be dropped or withdrawn prior to semester end until all grade marks have been entered.
